His Excellency Mr. Yousef Hassan Khalawi, Secretary-General of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development, delivered a distinguished introductory session organized by the Amman Chamber of Commerce under the title:
” Lifetime Journey Across Generations: The Path to a Better Future for Family Businesses.”
The session aimed to empower family business owners to achieve long-term success across generations by promoting the principles of good governance, enhancing administrative efficiency, and preparing next-generation leaders to guide their enterprises with competence, resilience, and innovation.
During the session, H.E. Mr. Khalawi delivered four core messages encapsulating the essence of the “Journey of a Lifetime Across Generations” as experienced by family businesses:
- The journey starts with the first generation, the founder, who establishes the foundational values and guiding principles.
- The second generation follows, focusing on developing the business and expanding its operations.
- The third generation takes on the responsibility of scaling the enterprise and extending its reach into new markets.
H.E. Mr. Khalawi stressed the importance of embracing institutional transformation and innovation, highlighting that each new generation introduces fresh opportunities. However, he also noted the necessity of remaining anchored in the core values upon which the family business was founded.
He concluded with a fourth key message, highlighting the critical role of long-term strategic planning in ensuring the sustainability of family businesses. This includes adopting an institutional vision that transcends individual leadership and reinforces the organization’s capacity to endure and flourish across generations.
The event witnessed the presence of a distinguished group of attendees, including senior representatives from the Amman Chamber of Commerce, members of its general assembly who lead prominent family businesses, and executives from financial institutions actively engaged with the family business sector.
The session served as a powerful reminder of the vital role that family businesses play in economic development and the importance of equipping them with the tools and strategic vision needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
